St Thomas More High School

Ski Trip - February 2017

Over half term, we once again embarked on our Annual Ski Trip, visiting Obertauern in Austria. Following a long but entertaining coach journey across Europe, we arrived at our house for the week, Gottschallalm Jugendgastehaus, run by local hero Hannes and his family. We were welcomed by a week of delightful weather and perfect skiing conditions. With a variety of skiing abilities on display, from total beginner to seasoned veterans, the resort in Obertauern caters for all. Our beginner groups progressed swiftly and all looked natural on ski’s, eventually progressing up to the top of the mountain on the final day, a marvellous achievement for such a big group.

Our intermediate and advanced groups were of a very high standard, which allowed both groups to see the majority of what Obertauern has to offer, their improvement throughout the week was noticeable, with confidence growing with every run. Away from the slopes, the boys enjoyed plenty of evening activities, swimming, pizza night, Champions League and of course our Ski Trip 5-a-side football tournament (which was won by the staff!).

All in all, another hugely successful and thoroughly enjoyable trip was had by all. Thanks of course to all the boys and parents that continue to support the trip and the staff that accompanied the boys – Mr Kearney, Mrs Griffiths, Miss Curtis, Mr Tisi & Mr Wiltshire. If you are interested in going skiing again or for the first time, we will be going skiing again next year, Ski 2018 interest letters are ready to collect now from Mr Harding.
