St Thomas More High School

Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards Evening

This week we saw 18 of our students receive their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. The ceremony was held at Southend Civic Centre. Across the Southend Area 81 students achieved the Award, so we are proud that 18 are from our school.

The Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award means that they have to complete a skill, physical, volunteering and also a 3 day expedition. This means them walking and camping in the Peak District. As a school we were also really proud that Luis Nastili gave the only student presentation on his experiences of the Duke of Edinburgh Award at this Awards evening. This was an amazing speech, he spoke about how the award has developed him as a person, has given him friends for life and also helped him with his studies. We are really proud of him for going up and speaking in front of so many people. As I know Luis when he was in year 9 would never have done this. So I am really proud of him and all the other Award winners and the achievement they have made.
