U17 County Cricket Finals Day

The team from STM, made up of Year 10’s, 11’s and 12’s,  put on two very respectable performances against very tough opposition to finish 3rd in the county in the U17 age group.

Up against National cup quarter finalists Shenfield first, we bowled very well and looked like we could restrict them to a relatively low total until a couple of dropped catches allowed their Essex players to rack up the runs and finish on a total that was always going to be hard to chase. So it proved as we fell 60 odd runs short. Our third place play-off was against the host school Brentwood, coached by no other than Ashes winner Geraint Jones MBE.  Batting first, captain Patel was the standout player with a half century that gave us something to defend. They were always up with the run-rate but regular wickets meant the game was always in the balance. Great bowling and fielding counted in the end as we bowled them out 3 runs short of our total. A great day out with some fantastic cricket played by all. Team – Patel, Canning, Merron, Dyos, Thomas, Cullen, Curtis, Roy, McCarthy, O’Riordan-Mitchell, Epton.
