St Thomas More High School

Year 7 Football Versus Langtons, Canterbury, in the National Cup, 3-1 win.

St. Thomas More’s year 7s comfortably came out on top to progress to the last 32 of the National Cup. Our boys started extremely well and were very fresh despite the two hour bus journey. Liam Barry was flying down the left wing and it was his corner that led to the first goal, a deflection off the opposition defender saw the ball scramble over the line. Fifteen minutes in, Tommy Abere was showing some fine touches up front and after great approach play from Liam Barry again, Abere finished with a calm, cool strike.

Tommy Salter was showing inspirational enthusiasm and determination and a great run past three players saw him finish with a inch perfect strike into bottom right hand corner.

We had some great chances in the second half but failed to take them. Langton’s got a consolation goal but Tommy More had Oliver Robinson to thank for some great saves too.

A great win for Tommy More after a long journey. The boys showed great fight, heart, determination and Tommy More spirit. There were some tired bodies and faces getting off the bus at 6pm in the school car park, but they went home with a bounce in their step, ready for the next round.

There were some outstanding individual performances from Ethan Harris, Oliver Robinson, Liam Barry,  and Tommy Abere. We look forward to the last 32 of the National Cup in the new year.
