3-1 Victory for STM Sixth Form vs Westcliff

After the disappointment if last season’s results against Westcliff, the 1st XI football side opened their season with a controlled 3-1 victory. The new look side played effective and patient football, looking like a side that have been playing together for years.

Falling behind after 20 minutes to a well struck effort from 18 yards, a fortunate penalty was awarded and Phagura stepped up to slot it away with ease. Afreh looked to cause a threat anytime the ball was near him with his pace and power, whilst Keville worked hard to break up play when Westcliff looked to break through with pace and power of their own. Ndoro stepped up to the mark as he replaced Afreh who pulled up with injury. From this point and until the end STM controlled the game and it was only a matter of time in the second half when Ndoro slotted in a nice finish after Afreh battled through his injury to return to the action. Phagura waltzed through the Westcliff defence to finish the game off and put 3 points on the board against local rivals so early in the season. The team travel to Chelmsford next week before a trip down the road to face old foes Southend, again, in this year’s National Cup.
