St Thomas More High School

Year 10 Cricket v Shoebury – Won by 1 run

This shortened 12 over fixture found itself sandwiched between the U15 county semi-final and the U19 county quarter final. Add to this revision classes and trips and it meant only five of the cricket team could play this match. Drafted in were Stalley, Philpot, Dale, Burlock and Gammer.

We got off to a poor start with Curtis out for a duck second ball. James and McCarthy provided good support to Thomas who fell just short of retiring on 23. Dale came in at the end of the innings to score some important runs as we posted 82 in our 12 overs.

This looked easily defendable and so it proved for most of the innings as tight bowling and good fielding restricted Shoebury to mainly singles. It all changed when their captain hit one over for 21 runs. Suddenly the momentum was with them. It went down to the final over where they needed 5 runs to win. Captain Thomas bowled six fantastic balls that went for just three runs. Needing two to win from the final ball or one to tie, the Shoebury team were devastated as Thomas destroyed the stumps to secure a one run win. Thank you to all who played but especially those who stepped up to fill in.
