St Thomas More High School

Under 15 County cup cricket semi-final v New Hall

This fixture proved a step too far for the Tommy More boys who were perhaps overawed by both the occasion and the grandiose setting in which the match was played. You know you may be up against a good team when the opposition’s bowlers are going through their warm up led by Nasser Hussain (96 test matches for England with 45 as captain, 5764 runs at an average of 37.18). The statistics of Mr Bass and Mr Kearney don’t quite match up to these……..

Batting first, we started positively with Ewan Thomas looking solid. He was once again his worst enemy though as he ran himself out looking for a single that was never on. After that, wickets fell at regular intervals with only Aby Roy, Jess Dyos and Jacob Tanousis occupying the crease for any decent length of time. The less said about Allian Arif’s one-ball innings the better….!  47 was obviously never going to be enough and so it proved as their openers knocked off the runs with ease.

Despite the loss the boys should be proud of their achievements this season. They know they could have played better in this game but that is the nature of sport. They now refocus on the local competitions as they look to replicate last year’s league and cup double. A special thank you to Mr Thomas, Mr Cullen and Mrs McCarthy for coming down to Chelmsford to cheer the boys on.
