St Thomas More High School

Southend High 2-5 STM 1st XI

Looking to continue their fine league form the 1st XI made the journey down the road to face second in the league, Southend High.

It was an even start to the game with Southend looking dangerous on the counter attack. As the game settled STM grew into it and took the lead as Akinpelu got his first of the season with a neat finish. The lead was doubled two minutes later with Makolli pouncing from two yards out. In full control of the game, Morgan struck the crossbar for the second week running but this time Captain Robinson added a third. They say you are most vulnerable after you score and STM were as Southend pulled a goal back with some sloppy marking at a set piece. Afreh put the game to bed early in the second half, a second half which was all about managing the lead and not letting the opposition back into it. Despite this a Robinson / Boosey mistake (one in which they are still arguing over who’s at fault!!) gave Southend a glimmer of hope but this just made STM step it up a gear and Akinpelu got his second of the game. A convincing 5-2 victory and the side extend their lead to four points at the top of the Essex League.

A trip to Gable Hall next week awaits.
